Outland Clipless MTB £19.99

Monday 29th September 2008

Weight: 364g / Replacement cleats £9.99 / Contact: www.raleigh.co.uk

At only £19.99, these are the cheapest pedals on test by a long shot, but to be honest, if you blindfolded the testers they'd struggle to tell them apart from the more expensive Shimanos. Clip in and release is smoother and a definite improvement on the slightly unpredictable Wellgo. The pedals are Shimano compatible, and we found no difficulty using even worn Shimano cleats with them. Once on the bike they were quickly forgotten. The only downside is the bearing quality — out of the box there's a painfully grinding feel and this didn't
improve with use.

We've marked the Outland's down slightly for the bearings, but apart from that they are a great first step onto the clipless ladder.
